Three recalls and a short-lived RWD variant
2025 was a challenging year for the Cybertruck. Tesla introduced a single-motor Rear-Wheel Drive “Long Range” variant at $69,990 in April, but it was discontinued after just a few months due to low demand — buyers rejected a less capable truck at a higher price than originally promised.
The year saw three NHTSA recalls: a trim panel detachment issue in March (46,096 vehicles), overly bright front parking lights in October (63,619 vehicles), and a loose light bar accessory in late October (6,197 vehicles). Cybertruck sales fell 48.1% year-over-year to 20,237 units — the steepest decline among major EVs — coinciding with the expiration of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit.
