Tesla filed design patents for the Cybertruck’s distinctive geometry

Tesla published multiple design patent applications with the USPTO to protect the Cybertruck’s distinctive angular geometry. The patents covered the vehicle’s flat stainless steel panels, sharp angles, and overall silhouette — key elements that differentiated it from every other pickup truck on the market.

Design patents protect the ornamental appearance of a product for up to 15 years, and the Cybertruck’s unconventional look made it a prime candidate for such protection. The publications were a standard step in protecting the vehicle’s intellectual property ahead of production, but they also signaled Tesla’s commitment to bringing the Cybertruck to market despite the manufacturing challenges.
