Cybertruck Production Line Takes Shape at Giga Texas

Cybertruck production line installation progresses at Gigafactory Texas

By August 2022, the Cybertruck production line at Gigafactory Texas was taking shape. Tesla was installing specialized equipment including the large air bending presses needed to shape the stainless steel panels, laser welding stations for joining the body panels, and the battery pack assembly line for the 4680 cells. The facility was being designed around the Cybertruck’s unique manufacturing requirements, which differed significantly from traditional automotive stamping and assembly processes.

The air bending process, which Tesla chose over traditional stamping for the stainless steel body, required massive hydraulic presses capable of bending the ultra-hard 304L stainless steel panels into the Cybertruck’s angular shapes. This approach eliminated the need for expensive stamping dies but was slower and more complex than conventional methods.
