Manufacturing Challenges
The Cybertruck’s stainless steel body presents unique manufacturing challenges:
- Air bending — instead of traditional stamping, panels are formed using air pressure, a slower process
- Laser cutting — precise but slow compared to stamping dies
- No paint shop — eliminates one production step but requires extra surface finishing
- 4680 battery cells — new cell format required new production lines
- Ultra-Hard ClearShield Glass — custom ceramic glass production
Tesla’s production ramp has been gradual, reaching approximately 1,300 units/week by mid-2024.
Foundation Series
The first 1,750 Cyberbeasts delivered (January–October 2024) were designated “Foundation Series” and carried a ~$20,000 premium over the base $99,990 price, bringing the total to approximately $119,990.
