Pilot Production Ramps Up

Pilot production of Cybertruck ramps up at Gigafactory Texas

In August 2023, Tesla began ramping up pilot production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas. The company was building vehicles at a limited rate to work through manufacturing challenges and refine the production process before full-scale production. Reports indicated that Tesla was building roughly 100 vehicles per week during the pilot phase, with the goal of identifying and resolving any issues before customer deliveries.

The pilot production phase was critical for Tesla, as the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body and air bending process presented unique manufacturing challenges. The company needed to optimize the air bending presses, laser welding stations, and battery assembly line to achieve acceptable production rates and quality levels. Tesla also used this phase to train workers and refine the assembly process.
