Cybertruck pre-orders continued to grow despite production delays

Despite production delays, Cybertruck pre-orders continued to grow, with Tesla reporting over 1.9 million reservations by mid-2021. The strong demand was surprising given the vehicle’s unconventional design and the fact that production was now over two years away. The pre-order numbers demonstrated the Cybertruck’s appeal as a novelty purchase and Tesla’s ability to generate hype around new products.

However, the $100 refundable deposit meant these numbers didn’t represent firm commitments.
