Production Pushed to 2022

Tesla pushed Cybertruck production from late 2021 to 2022

Tesla officially pushed the Cybertruck production timeline from ‘late 2021’ to 2022, acknowledging the challenges of developing a completely new vehicle platform. The delay was attributed to the complexity of the stainless steel exoskeleton manufacturing and Gigafactory Texas construction.

This was the first official acknowledgment that the original timeline was unrealistic. The Cybertruck’s manufacturing requirements — particularly the laser-cut stainless steel panels and new battery architecture — proved more complex than initially anticipated. Gigafactory Texas was still under construction, and the specialized tooling needed for the Cybertruck’s unique design was not yet in place.
