Cybertruck might hit a 0.30 drag coefficient

The discussion about the Cybertruck driving efficiency has never stopped since the unveiling event. Today, Elon finally gave us some additional infomation saying “Cybertruck might hit a 0.30 drag coefficient, which would be insane for a truck.”

The tweet is in response of a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation performed by an aerospace engineer Justin Martin. The results are very intereting but the author mentioned that there are many uncertain factors may change the results significantly, so he did not give any estimated drag coefficient (Cd).

Here is Cd of several other vehicles for your references (data from Wikipedia):

Vehicle Model 3 Model X Ram 1500 Tesla Semi Bugatti Chiron
Cd 0.23 0.25 0.357 0.36 0.38

I couldn’t find the excat data for Ford F150 but there are reports showing that the newer model year Ram 1500 and Ford F150 pickup truck have similar aerodynamics performance. Keep in mind that sports cars may have been designed with higher drag coefficient due to the need of downforce at high speed.

Anyway, a 0.30 drag coefficient is really low for a pickup truck.

Meanwhile, you can build your own Cybertruck model using Blender if your intereted. CG Geek did it in 1 Minute, thanks to the flat panel surfaces. Cybertruck also got its appearance in a GTA 5 Mods. Here is the video:
