Cybertruck production version may be slightly smaller for easier parking#

Yesterday, Elon revealed some information about potential changes of production version of the Cybertruck through a series of tweet exchange with fans.

It starts with an TESLARATI article about Cybertruck might be too big for some family garages. Elon replied that they might be able to “reduce width by an inch & maybe reduce length by 6+ inches without losing on utility or esthetics.” He also mention the “Min height is below 75 inches when air suspension set to low.” They “Will post exact number soon.”

Cybertruck has been spotted on the street again, Elon the driver!#

It has been about 10 days since we saw Cybertruck on the street the first time (Nov. 27th, 2019). Today, Cybertruck was spotted on the Street again around LAX and there is something new with it already. It comes with the tow hitch this time. (Still no rear view mirror though.)

We all know that Cybertruck has a towing capacity from 7,500 lbs (RWD) to 14,000 lbs (Tri Motor AWD) and it is expected to come with a tow hitch. They acturally “showed” the tow hitch on Cybertruck briefly in the Cybertruck VS F-150 tug-of-war video, but the one in the unveiling event does not have one (and nobody complained). Is it possible that the tow titch is removable? I feel that is not the case since a removable tow hitch may not be strong enough for any extrem towing test. Are they still going to do the Cybertruck VS F-150 test?

The unveiling event of Tesla Cybertruck was rather short and a lot of Cybertruck’s features are underestimated. The “active suspension height & damping control system” is one of them. John D. brought a video to Elon on Twitter yesterday showing the tailgate of a fully loaded (3,000 lbs) Ford F350 got deformed during a twisting frame test. This seems a realistic scenario (one of guy in the video said he has been in this kind of situation before) and John wants to check if Tesla Cybertruck will be able to handel this.

Cybertruck might hit a 0.30 drag coefficient#

The discussion about the Cybertruck driving efficiency has never stopped since the unveiling event. Today, Elon finally gave us some additional infomation saying “Cybertruck might hit a 0.30 drag coefficient, which would be insane for a truck.”

The tweet is in response of a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation performed by an aerospace engineer Justin Martin. The results are very intereting but the author mentioned that there are many uncertain factors may change the results significantly, so he did not give any estimated drag coefficient (Cd).

The first time a Cybertruck has been spotted on the street#

The video was posted on reddit this afternoon. The location seems around Hawthorne, CA where the Tesla design center is.

People can have a better idea about the truck size by comparing to the model X following it. The Cybertruck was actually driven without the side mirror. It also left the bed cover open.

It’s definitly exciting moment to see a Cybertruck driven on real world road! Feels like 2021 to me!

The Cybertruck vs F-150 - the tongue-in-cheek challenge#

Well, the Cybertruck vs F-150 discussion seems came to an end really fast, at least from Ford side. A Ford spokesperson told CNBC today that Madra’s tweet was “tongue-in-cheek to point out the absurdity of Tesla’s video, nothing more.”(Link) What does this mean? I guess Ford did the calculation and they know the results too, so “tug-of-war” became “tongue-in-cheek”.

Fans on both side are very keen to see the test and hopefully Tesla still will do it next week. An “apples to apples” compareison will be really difficult since there are so many variables in this equation, but one thing for sure. EV will win and all these fray will be very good for the whole EV industry.

Tesla Cybertruck reach 200,000 orders within 72 hours#

200,000 order with a average price of $5,6400 (7% single motor version, 42% are dual and 41% tri, not including full self driving) - That’s more than $11 Billion potential revenue within the first 72 hours. I know, the $100 refundable deposit is low enough that people can just throw in and think about it later, but it is still a remarkable number.

Tesla Cybertruck reach 146,000 orders within 40 hours#

The unveiling event ended around 9:00 PM on Nov. 21st, 2019 and Elon tweeted out that Tesla received 146K Cybertruck orders at 12:54 PM on Nov. 23rd, 2019. 17% of them are single motor version, 42% are dual motor version and 41% tri motor version.

I’m actually not suprised by this number/speed because of Cybertruck’s astonising specs. With a $39,900 base price, Cybertruck provides same range as the Model 3 SR+ with much better utility. On the other hand, the high end model is expected to be faster than Porsche 911 and 500+ miles ranges, but much cheaper ($69,900 vs $98,750 for 911 base model).
